We’ll begin with a thorough examination, including X-rays to assess the tooth and the extent of infection. Next, we’ll explain the treatment plan and answer any questions you have before proceeding.
To ensure complete comfort, we’ll provide a local anaesthetic. You’ll remain awake but will not feel pain during the procedure.
Next, we’ll create a small opening in the top of the tooth to access the root canals. The infected or damaged pulp is carefully removed using precision instruments, and the inside of the canals is cleaned and shaped.
Once the canals are thoroughly disinfected, they are filled with a special material called gutta-percha, which seals the tooth and prevents future infection.
After the root canal is complete, the tooth is restored with a filling or, in most cases, a custom-made crown. This strengthens the tooth and protects it from further damage while restoring its natural appearance.
After the anaesthetic wears off, it’s normal to feel mild tenderness or sensitivity for a few days. This can be easily managed with over-the-counter pain killers and should settle as the tooth heals.
